The Plexipixel holiday party included some great food, drinks, Rock Band, karaoke, and the debut single Plexi Christmas by Plexipixel’s very own Da Christmas Crackaz. Da Christmas Crakaz are Lisa and Stephanie on the mic with Andy on the board and lending his screemo expertise. Trev kicked in some post prod magic. Check out the hot chart topper!

The holiday party featured some of the best musical performances the world has ever seen. The Mamas (Mindy, Alyssa and Bonnie) and the Papa (Ian) helped start off the evening with some Rock Band. Lisa tried to call out Allen with a Baby Got Back Off but ended up having to do it solo. Jesse and Matt definitely took the top honors with their touching duet rendition of Hello by Lionel Richie. Andy rocked the Rock Lobster and topped off the night with Missy Elliott.

CBS has partnered with Xbox Live to sync to Last.fm allowing their Gold subscribers access to Last.fm content. Last.fm is an internet radio and music community website that exposes new music to users based on their profiles and music taste. According to the paidContent article, “Xbox Connection Funnels A Million New Subscribers To Last.fm”, Xbox LIVE users have already contributed over a million new subscribers, setting a CBS record for new profiles created in a 24 hour period. This has lead to both companies hyping the new partnership as a success, and helping CBS to increase the reach and targetability for the Last.fm service.

Our friend Tommy Perman and his band Found will be playing at the 2009 SXSW Festival. To help them raise money to cross the Atlantic, they’re offering a collection of exclusive remixes and songs previously only available on limited edition vinyl called Snarebrained. The album features Lisa Lindley Jones, De Rosa, Jonnie Common (Down The Tiny Steps) and Akira Kiteshi.

Join all our pals at Fantagraphics Bookstore in Georgetown this Saturday for “The Curiously Sinister Art of Jim Flora,” a are show by the maniacal 50s era hep cat illustrator. Flora’s manic caricatures of jazz legends like Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, and Gene Krupa for RCA Victor and Columbia wreaked havoc with the laws of physics.

It isn’t often that I have occasion or interest in tooting my own horn, but as it turns out, this month, I get to do so while also championing some very, very talented musicians: The Avett Brothers. Check out this feature piece that I wrote on the Avetts for the latest issue of Magnet Magazine.

Even if you aren’t prone to rattling, rootsy, cow punk music, this band may still grab the seat of your pants and set it a-wigglin’. If you’re going to Bumbershoot on Saturday, catch them on the Mural Ampitheater state around 4-ish. You’ll see me up front, singing along, ducking flying banjos, and grinning like a loon.
