The PSBJ Book of Lists is a great sales and marketing resource that highlights hundreds of the areas hottest companies in their fields, by ranking. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us for the 2009 NWJobs.com People’s Picks. For the second year in a row we were a finalist for the industry award for Favorite Creative Company. We were also a finalist for the small company award for Most Unusual Perks, a recognition we are pretty stoked on around here. One of those unusual perks includes our Halloween Costume Contest and Breakfast Social from this morning, which produced some hilarious costumes and gut-wrenching laughter. We don’t normally like to gloat about our success, or tute our own horn as some people might say, but we are extremely proud of everyone here at Plexipixel, and want to thank all of you again for your support!

The Animaticus Foundation presents the
Third Annual 2D OR NOT 2D Animation Festival
at the Boeing Imax Theater in Pacific Science Center in Seattle

Friday, November 14th 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Saturday, November 15th 11:00 am – 11:00pm

This year’s “2D OR NOT 2D Animation Festival” has to be the most exciting and extensive festival ever held in the Pacific Northwest! Not only are there hours of newly animated films (in 2D, 3D, Claymation and Cut-Out styles, from around the world) but there are also incredible top-drawer, industry speakers appearing, showing their work and teaching some of their amazing techniques. All submitted films will be vying for a coveted “Golden Pencil Award” in several categories, announced at a special Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening. The Awards Ceremony will also be the time when the “Roy E. Disney Award” will be announced… a special, non-competitive award that is presented to the person or organization who the organizers fell have most contributed to the world of animation in recent times. Rounding up the entire festival will be the special Gala Event, where attendees, speakers and invited guests will be able to meet ‘n greet each other in a relaxed social setting, entertained by the “Pontiac Bay Orchastra“, conducted by Hollywood composer Hummie Mann.

Keynote presenters Include:

• DON HAHN ~ Emmy Award-winning producer for Disney and Tim Burton. His credits include “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King” and will be presenting a rarely seen selection of Disney shorts
• BARRY COOK ~ Director of “Mulan”
• DEAN YEAGLE ~ Animator/ Creator of Playboy’s “Mandy”

Workshops presenters include:

• DANIEL DOCIU ~ Chief Art Director for ArenaNet; creators of “GuildWars”
• PETER MOEHRLE ~ Production and Background Artist for Disney and other major studios
• MICHEL GAGNE ~ Designer and Animator extraordinaire, creator of the “Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet”

Yes, it’s true… Plexipixel is a finalist for NWjob’s “favorite creative company” 2008. We were barely beat out by an architecture firm that has over 500 employees and 6 world-wide offices, and in the company of other hefty–as in staff number not in stature (yes, we’re calling you out for next year)–competitors like Zaaz, Filter and Big Fish.

Kristi and I finally found some official stats from the Adidas Penalty Shootout Instant Messenger game we designed and developed last year. According to Microsoft, the game was “one of the five most successful online games in the world” with 13 million plays in the 2 months of the campaign.

With 5 million unique users playing the game, there were inevitably people like this:

“I’m going to kick him in the groin. High power! In the groin, in the groin, in the groin!”

I love how he says it’s “rather rubbish” but he does really get into the game, doesn’t he? Nice try pretending how you dislike it, Mr. Ikealord. LOL!

Our latest casual game, Sushi-Me, is up for nomination this year in the Zeebys!  Sushi-Me is an online casual game created for play on PC, Mac, touch-screen and Nintendo Wii that combines fast-paced action, cute characters, hilarious animation, catchy audio, and witty writing.  It’s “winning rave reviews throughout the seven seas!”  Everything including character design, audio, and even the very witty copy for Sushi-Me was done in-house by our super talented Plexi peeps.

If you haven’t heard of them, the Zeebys are the Annual Casual Game Award with games from casual game developers of all sizes—even huge companies like Vivendi and Ubisoft!  Award winners will be announced at the Casual Connect Conference 2008 being held in Seattle this July.

• Best Visual Arts of the Year
• Most Innovative Game of the Year
• Best Story, Narrative or Original Character of the Year 
• Best Audio of the Year
