Amy Rice will be the featured November artist at Bluebottle Art Gallery. Her paintings are all created on 100 year old shingles made from Northwest cedar trees. The imagery on each shingle is indicitive of the era in which the shingles were made, ie: sheep, rabbits, farmers, etc. Her techniques include stencils and spray paint. Each painting is unique and beautifully crafted.

The opening reception is Saturday, November 4th from 6-8 pm.

The Oregon Convention Center in Portland is home to the Stumptown Comics Festival this year. Stumptown is growing rapidly, due to all the awesome participants and their loyal fans. Like every other comic-con, this one has attracted a number of crafts vendors, as well as small publishers, including first timers at Stumptown, Fantagraphics Books. If you can afford the tank of gas, and don’t have any Halloween parties to haunt this weekend, it’s totally worth the drive. Notables include Colleen Coover, Bwana Spoons, Top Shelf Productions, Oni Press, Karin Yamagiwa Madan and Suzanne Kaufman, Tim Swope and many more.

The University Bookstore hosted a comics event last night with Harvey Pekar, David Lasky, Anne Elizabeth Moore and Jesse Reklaw. They spoke of sequential art, what cartooning means and thoughts on web comics. Apparently the debonair David Lasky stole the show with his amusing antics. Here are some photos from the event:

NW Film Forum and Cinema K are proud to present the Gumby 50th Anniversary Celebration from Friday, October 20th through Thursday, October 26th.

Manik Skateboards, in association with BLVD. Gallery, is pleased to present “Pushin’ 5,” an exhibition examining the aesthetic carnage at the unmarked intersection of fine art, contemporary graphics and skateboard culture. This show is a follow-up to the highly acclaimed “PUSH Project” exhibition, which opened in Seattle in 2003 before traveling to Los Angeles, New York and Portland, OR. Over the weekend, Animal Talk, a no-kill shelter and pet store, was brutally ransacked. The perps not only stole money, an iguana and other reptiles, but let all the cats out of their cages and stomped on some poor small rodents. Missy Young, the owner of Animal Talk, is a selfless woman, never refusing any cat a place to eat or sleep. This is just a juvenile and irresponsible act of terror. If you or anyone you know has any clue what happened, please call the Seattle Police Department or Pasado’s Safe Haven at (206) 779-9102. Also, you can make a donation through PayPal here. We are encouraging people to buy all their animal food and products to help support them in this time of crisis. Animal Talk is located at 6514 Roosevelt Way NE Seattle WA 98115.
